Location Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana New Orleans Corps District
Total Bank Size 250 acres of Bottomland Hardwoods and 53 acres of Baldcypress Swamp within a 2,131-acre site
Approved Permittee-Responsible Mitigation (PRM) 234 acres contiguous to the Bank
Restoration Work Plan Delta Land Services will restore the wetlands with the following:
- Remove livestock
- Planting of approximately 164,000 seedlings
- Long-term protection with a perpetual conservation servitude
- Establishment of maintenance and protection funds in perpetuity
Project Objectives The project area serves as compensatory mitigation for unavoidable
impacts to wetlands associated with USACE permits within the New Orleans
District’s Lower Grand and West Central Louisiana Coastal watersheds.
The restoration of bottomland hardwood and baldcypress swamp forest will
provide additional wetland functions and values, which are not
currently utilized. This includes:
- The restoration of historic surface hydrology
- The
re-establishment of the native bottomland hardwood and baldcypress
swamp communities through hydrology, restoration and afforestation of
native species
- To expand and improve contiguous wetland forested habitat
